Strata SL Tile Backer Boards
The ultimate insulation for electric under-tile heating mats. The panels give exactly the same heat and sound insulation properties as identical, more expensive construction boards.
With the fibreglass meshed surface on both sides of the boards, the compressive strength equals or exceeds every other tile backing board on the market and is capable of supporting long term static loading without compression.
Strata 6mm SL or 10mm XL is ideal for installing underneath Flexel Cable Mats. The high thermal conductivity will ensure heat is transferred quickly to the floor surface instead of dissipating back down through the sub-floor.
Strata SL is a waterproof floor insulation for underfloor heating and has a Thermal Conductivity of 0.027w/mk and Compressive strength of 300kpa. Strata is also CFC and HCFC free. And can reduce sound up to 20 decibels.
It evens out and covers over irregularities and cracks in solid sub-floors. Flattening out old worn floorboards without the need to overlay with plywood. It has a high compressive strength (30 tonnes per m²)
Strata can be bonded onto solid (concrete), bitumen, wood or chipboard sub-floors with flexible tile adhesive, or screwed into wood sub-floors.
Prior to fixing the Strata SL tile backer board, all traces of existing finishes should be removed back to the sub-floor. The floor should be level and dust free. New concrete or screed should be well cured prior to laying Strata SL board. A proprietary flexible floor tile adhesive should be used in conjunction with under floor heating. A flexible floor tile adhesive should be used.
Apply the bed of adhesive to the floor with a notched trowel. Any slight depressions in the concrete substrate will normally be taken up with the thickness of the adhesive. The Strata tile backer boards should be thoroughly bedded, ensuring that no voids remain beneath them. But them close together, laid in a chequer plate fashion, like bonding brickwork. When the tile adhesive is dry, tape the board joints with tile backer board tape
The underfloor heating element can now be laid onto the Strata SL tile backer board in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.
- Strata SL is Moisture resistant, effectively blocks out damp and coldness from solid flooring. Heat is reflected back through the flooring making it an ideal base when installing underfloor heating.
- Foil Tape is needed to join the panels over a concrete floor for thermal insulation and moisture sealing. 1 roll is enough to do 20-25 sheets.
